Classical Guitar

Classical guitar,
the right way.

Lee plays classical guitar to a high standard and is now offering starter lessons for those who want to learn properly, not just to strum a few chords, but to develop real technique. Classical guitar builds a foundation that transfers to every other guitar style: posture, hand position, finger independence, and reading music are taught from the very first session.

These are beginner and early-intermediate lessons. The focus is on building solid habits early, rather than rushing through material and developing the bad habits that are twice as hard to unlearn later. Lessons are relaxed, structured, and designed around how each student learns best.

🎸 Why Classical Guitar?

Classical technique is the gold standard starting point for guitar. It develops finger independence, clean tone production, proper posture, and an ability to read music, all skills that make learning any other style significantly easier.

  • Builds correct technique from day one
  • Transfers directly to acoustic, fingerstyle, and other styles
  • Finger independence training from the start
  • Music reading introduced progressively
  • Lessons for all ages, children and adults welcome

What you'll learn.

A structured progression from the very basics through to early repertoire. Pace is always adapted to the student, with no rushing and no shortcuts.

🤲

Posture & Hand Position

The foundation that everything else is built on. Correct sitting position, how to hold the guitar, and left and right hand placement, all established properly from the outset to prevent injury and build efficiency.

  • Classical sitting position (footstool method)
  • Right hand rest stroke and free stroke
  • Left hand thumb position and finger arch
  • Wrist alignment and tension awareness
  • Practice habits that protect your hands
🎵

Reading Music

Classical guitar uses standard notation, not just tab. Lee introduces music reading progressively so that it becomes natural rather than overwhelming. By the end of early lessons, students can read simple melodies independently.

  • Staff, notes, and rhythm values
  • Note positions on the guitar
  • Simple melodies in first position
  • Rhythm reading and counting
  • Sight-reading exercises introduced gradually
👆

Scales & Finger Independence

Scales are the vocabulary of music. More importantly for beginners, they build the left-right hand coordination and finger independence that makes everything else easier. Practiced from the first few sessions.

  • C and G major scale in first position
  • Chromatic exercises for independence
  • Slur (hammer-on and pull-off) technique
  • Arpeggios and broken chord patterns
  • Speed and evenness built incrementally
🎶

Early Repertoire

Real music, played properly, from early on. Students work through short classical pieces that are achievable at their level, building musicality and the satisfaction of actually playing something recognisable.

  • Beginner classical studies (Carcassi, Carulli)
  • Simple baroque melodies
  • Folk and traditional pieces arranged for beginners
  • Short original exercises written for clarity
  • Pieces chosen to match current technical level
🎧

Musicality & Ear Training

Playing notes correctly is only half of playing music. Lee introduces listening skills, dynamics, and musical expression from early on, so students develop an ear for what they're playing, not just a mechanical sequence of movements.

  • Listening and imitating simple phrases
  • Dynamics: loud, soft, and in between
  • Tone production: sul tasto, sul ponticello
  • Basic music theory concepts introduced contextually
📅

Practice Structure

What you do between lessons matters more than the lesson itself. Lee teaches students how to practice efficiently: what to focus on, how to break down difficult passages, and how to stay consistent without burning out.

  • Effective 15–30 minute daily practice routines
  • How to identify and isolate problem sections
  • Slow practice and the role of the metronome
  • Tracking progress and setting achievable short-term goals

Where lessons take you.

A rough path for a committed beginner practicing regularly. Everyone progresses at their own rate. This is a guide, not a promise.
